Soup's On
What could be a better fall smell than soup cookin' in the kitchen? It's such a perfect chilly-day treat! This weekend, we have Chicken Tortilla Soup to warm us from the inside out. YUM!
New Sofa AKA 'Cuddle Nest'
Our brand new sofa has finally arrived... no doubt with much anticipation and even a little anxiety. We have done some pretty thorough testing and the sofa has received an A+. It's soft, comfy, roomy, and kinda feels like you've fallen into a little cocoon of cuddle. I think we'll add a little bit of color with some extra throw pillows and blankets, which will only up the extreme comfort level. It's a keeper and oh-so-yummy! Especially on a rainy day like today. I can't wait for a movie marathon on the couch this weekend!

Ta da! Yes, you saw that all correctly. If you'll notice, the gentleman's shirt in the red reads "SURGEON". That's right. We hired Dr.Sofa to disassemble our brand new sofa into 2 pieces, move it into our apartment, and re-assemble it in our apartment. Unfortunately one of the drawbacks of New York City living is small and tight hallways and stairwells. That was certainly the case for us. We got the job done though! Thank you Dr.Sofa!!!
A few more details : the "surgeons" did have to SAW the frame of the sofa into 2 pieces (the arms and base were separates from the whole back of the sofa.) They did a really awesome job re-aligning and re-assembling with metal brackets and tons of screws. There were no issues with any fabric, and I'm confident that the sofa is just as good as the brand new sofa it was before they moved it in. I would highly recommend this service to anyone in need.

Organized and Handy
For the longest time, each time I needed a tool, I had to dig around in a big tool bag for just the right tool I needed. I can't tell you how many times I got punctured from doing that. Enough is enough. I finally made a trip to the hardware store and purchased some peg board and a variety of hooks.
I'm so happy to grab a tool when I need one now! I have no clue what took me so long to implement this in the first place. Happy fixing!

Yellow Canopy
This fall, though it's weather has been strange, I was very happy to see this beautiful yellow canopy of golden leaves. It was one happy moment during my two weeks of jury duty.
I wish the rest of Brooklyn's trees changed colors at the same time. I definitely missed the full fall effect this year.

Bell Jars and Cloches
What is it about a bell jar that makes whatever is inside seems so mysterious and creature-like? I love the scientific oddities feeling they give off. Remodelista did a wonderful article on using bell jars and cloches as decorations in your home. I think I need to add to my collection! Here are a few photos featured on the Remodelista post.
Melaphant Print
This wonderful mysterious inked plate is so charming! I wish I could see a final print of this plate though... The subject portrayed is part mouse - part elephant, hince the title Melaphant. The artist is Laine Greenway. If you check out his site, you'll see a few prints within the bell jar theme. I really, really like them! Hope you do too.
EDIT : I found a print of the Melaphant mezzotint. It's so wonderful!

Oh My. Apple Pie.
A couple of weekends ago I wandered upstate in a 15-passenger van with several friends to go apple picking. Here is the result of our trip.
I'm not a big crust-lover so this pie was just right.
We also have a fridge stocked with homemade applesauce, a perfect snack. Yum!

A Charlotte Weekend
Just wrapped up an extra fun weekend in Charlotte! We definitely packed a lot into a short amount of time. We wound up listening to and playing lots of music, eating Mexican food (twice), enjoying the southern outdoors and beautiful fall weather, we swung on playground swings at the park, found some crazy mushrooms near a tree, snuck in an impromptu photoshoot, made Mickey Mouse waffles, photographed a beautiful backyard wedding, ate a few too many fried pickles on the grand finale night at Penguin, and overall had a great time. Thanks to our great hosts Jeremy and Bailey for a very, very happy weekend. Until Thanksgiving...cheers.
